ATV Engines and Components
An ATV has two main engine types available: a 2-stroke engine and a 4-stroke engine. The engine type you choose varies on your immediate need. If you are looking to race your ATV, you should go for 2-stroke engine since it will produce more power than a 4-stroke. However, if Fuel consumption is an issue, you will be happier with a 4 stroke engine.

2-stroke engines use a gas and oil mixture for their fuel. The oil keeps the engine lubricated. With a lack of dedicated lubrication system, parts tend to wear-out faster. The 2-stroke engine also produces more pollution during combustion. Since the oil is mixed with the gas purely for lubrication, it doesn’t add to the ignition process. Not only is the 2 stroke engine fuel inefficient but during the release of the burnt gasses, some of the new mix of fuel and air also leaks out into the exhaust port.
If you are looking for an ATV engine that is both powerful and fuel efficient, you should be excited to know that the newer ATVs have an Electronic Fuel Injection System. The Electronic Fuel Injection System keeps you from having to rejet every time you add an upgrade or change from riding at sea level to the mountains.
