In 1983, Yamaha introduced the Tri-Moto 225DX. It was the world's first ATV to feature an electric start and a drive shaft. Both instantly proved to be instantly popular in the marketplace. The 4-stroke model also came with Monoshock rear suspension and telescoping front forks.
In 1984, Yamaha introduced it's first 4-wheeled ATV, the Moto 4. The Moto 4 featured a snorkel air intake, shaft drive, electric start, centrifugal automatic clutch and front and rear racks. The 196cc, 4 stroke engine also had a unique feature for Yamaha, a practical reverse gear.
The first high-performance ATV was introduced by Yamaha in 1985. It was the Tri-Z 250 and it featured a liquid cooled, 250cc 2-stroke engine with front and rear hydraulic disc brakes, air assist front forks, and Monoshock rear suspension. The under seat fuel tank gave the ATV a low center of gravity.
Today, Yamaha is best known for its Raptor 700R, the most powerful ATV ever, and the Grizzly 700EPS, the first ATV ever to have Electric Power Steering which lightens steering for superior comfort and terrainability.
